It must be X-Men week or something because first we looked at X-Men: Days Of Future Past in the post before this one, and now we're hearing news about Channing Tatum as Gambit? This news came about when X-Men movie producer Lauren Shuler teased that she has none other
than Channing Tatum in to play Gambit in a movie
presumably set within the newly expanded X-Men universe. When asked about a stand alone Gambit film, Shuler only had this to say:
We have to remember though, Tatum has gone on record to say that he'd love to play Gambit [see his quote on it below] so it makes sense that Shuler would listen, especially now with everything X-Men coming out so soon, starting with X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Personally, I feel that this could work, since Channing Tatum is from New Orleans, so it only makes sense that he'd play everyone's favorite Cajun Thief!“I’m dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn’t have to be a great big movie. It’s a thief in New Orleans, it’s a whole different story. He’s on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He’s such a sweetheart.”
“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch [who played the character in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'], though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people. [...] Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking [guy]. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line.”
The only real question I have is if this is happening, are we getting a more "modernized" costume, or are we getting the one from the comics; like the one in the picture above? I'm on the fence, about which one I want to see, but I guess time will tell. Which one would you want to see on the big screen? There isn't exactly a release date for this Gambit film either, considering Days Of Future Past hits theaters this summer, then X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse arrives in later in 2016; there's also still films such as X-Force and other projects [like Deadpool] are
still on the boards, so if Fox Films goes ahead and follows Marvel's movie model to release to
multiple films per year in the X Universe, then this would technically make it depend on when Channing is available? [he is packed this year with Jupiter Ascending, the new film from The Wachowskis, the guys responsible for the ever so hardcore Matrix series!]
