If I was to mention Hellraiser or Pinhead in the horror community, I know most [if not all] would know what and/or who I'm talking about. As for myself, I love the 1980's horror style from such movies as A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Evil Dead trilogy, and even Hellraiser. Now in the past 5 years, we had ANOES remade, a recent [really well done] remake of EVIL DEAD, and even a Friday The 13th remake! So naturally it's time for another remake- this time - Hellraiser.

Yep, it's an official thing. It's actually going to be happening; Hellraiser is getting a reboot/remake, and unlike the Nightmare On Elm Street remake, this one may actually be half-decent. The reason? Clive Barker himself has said on his official Facebook page that he's pitched the idea to Dimension Pictures, and it actually seems to be falling into place! The following is the status update Clive Barker posted on his OFFICIAL Facebook page yesterday:
"HOT FROM HELL!
My friends,I have some news which may be of interest to you.
A few weeks ago I had a very productive meeting with Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures, in the course of which I pitched a remake of the first HELLRAISER film. The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension. Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it?Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed , I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing . I promise that there will be nowhere on the Internet where the news of my progress will be more reliable than here, because the only author of these reports will be Your Infernal Correspondent, me. My very best wishes to you all,my friends.
Clive."

Does this mean that The Chatter-er is coming back? [as seen above] Because let's face it; he's one of the most fucked up looking Cenobite out there [which naturally makes him my personal favorite!] The stories of the Hellraiser universe haven't disappeared forever though, as they have stayed alive through a book series known as “The Hellbound Hearts” and the more recent comic book series known as “Hellraiser : Dark Watch”. [which is currently on my "to read" list.] Also, it was also recently announced that Clive has completed his novel “The Scarlet Gospels”, which crosses the paths of
Harry D’Amour and the lead Cenobite, Pinhead himself! That's all we know thus far on our newest film to be added to the horror movie remake bin, and let's go onto a topic that's equally as annoying; unnecessary sequels/bad casting choices!

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.. [oh right, I'm not supposed to say it three times. Does it count if it's typed, though?] As most people already know, I'm a serious Tim Burton buff. I own all the movies he's directed and they are even in chronological order on my movie shelf [yes, I'm serious]. One of my all time favorite films of his is Beetlejuice; hell, Lydia [played by the wonderfully fantastic Winona Ryder] was one of my first celebrity crushes [right next to Wednesday Addams]. However, the news has been dropped that Tim Burton is in talks to be directing it's SEQUEL! [I know, I'm confused so far as well as nothing plot wise has been confirmed as of yet..] While this could be pretty awesome, [mainly since Michael Keaton has already said he's coming back as Beetlejuice- damn right!] what's happening with Lydia? Will my Winona come back and play my dear gothic teen? Well.. I mean, I can hope, right?
———————————————————————————–
This is where things get weird.. According to sources everywhere, there's already one person in specific who says that if anyone were to ask her, she'd totally be up for the role as Lydia, but as someone who grew up crushing on Winona Ryder [as I already said], I'm not overly happy with this individual saying she'll play my dearest Lydia.. this person- is none other than Katy Perry.
..No, I DON'T approve AT. ALL.
———————————————————————————–
I don't mean to and I don't want to rant, so I'll keep this short: Katy Perry simply cannot be Lydia Deets. It just doesn't make sense. I mean, okay- I get it, she was Smurfette, which is perfectly fine; since that was an animation- but to tamper with my childhood crushes? I mean, this is crazy talk! She's a freaking musician, not a gothic teen who was perfected by Winona Ryder! I'm just thankful that Perry has said that she would play Lydia IF [and only IF] someone was to ask her. She's even said she'd be totally up for playing Rachel in a Blade Runner sequel- but I'll save that for another post, as it's a whole new can of beans. Just PLEASE Tim [Burton], you're sooo much smarter than this. Don't do this to us! [and here ends my rant]
———————————————————————————–
So that's all for today's post! How do you feel about a Hellraiser reboot? is this good- or should it be left alone like the Nightmare On Elm Street remake should have been? and how about Katy Perry playing Lyida? that alone shouldn't ever happen.. but that's just me.
