NEW 30 question horror challenge! [PART2]

http://paperpengo.com/Pictures/Dawn%20of%20A%20New%20Day.jpg

[wait, this isn't a Zelda post.. let me start again-] Before the weekend hit, I started a new horror challenge I found online and finished off at question number 6. Now that the weekend is done [plus,I'm not working: I was on call from Thursday to this morning at 8am.. talk about tiring!], I'm here to continue with part2! So enough delay, let's actually get right down to it!

———————————————————————————–

 # 07 - Your favorite supernatural horror film

http://i2.cdnds.net/12/44/618x718/the_shining.jpg

The Shining is my favorite Jack Nicholson film. As Jack Torrance, it was hard not to be afraid of what he was capable of. I remember my Grandfather showing me this film when I was younger, and not understanding it. Now that I'm older, and I appreciate film a hell of a lot more- I've come to love it. 'HEEEEEEERE'S JOHNNNY!'

———————————————————————————–

# 08 - Your favorite anthology

http://tworandomgirls.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Creepshow.jpg

Creepshow is the horror anthology to watch; although there is many other choices. [the second was alright, and we don't dare speak of 'Creepshow3'] I went with Creepshow however, because it embodies everything I like from horror films: monsters, blood, and best of all- horrific scenes. [honorable mention: Trick 'r Treat]

———————————————————————————–

 # 09 - Your favorite exploitation / grindhouse type film

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8i9t0MIN91qj7u8ao1_500.gif

Dead Alive; also known as Braindead was a gore-fest made famously by Peter Jackson [yeah, the LordOfTheRings director!] back in the 90s. It's gory for sure, but far from scary. [it's fairly cheesy actually] be sure to read my review on this film on my Letterboxd account here!

———————————————————————————–

 # 10 - Your favorite psychological horror film

Orphan Ghost Whisperer

when I first saw Orphan, I was blown away. I didn't think a film could be so extreme, especially when our villain is played by a young actress. Points to Isabelle Fuhrman for playing Esther so damn well, she certainly spooked the fuck outta me! this is a good thing.

# 11 - Your favorite science fiction horror film

http://www.doblu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/splice5352.jpg

Although I wanted to say Alien; I feel that it's a choice almost everyone would choose. For this reason, I went with another fantastic, but controversial sci-fi favorite: Splice. If you're so inclined, I actually did a review on this film on Letterboxd as well. [I seem to have done a lot of reviews there.] Read that review here.

———————————————————————————–

# 12 - Your favorite horror film involving the occult

[drag-me-hell2.jpg]

I'm not entirely sure this one counts, but Drag Me To Hell was a film I actually myself to enjoy, even if many of my friends didn't. My only real complaint about the film is it felt and looked different from Sam Raimi's other films. Not exactly a film with Deadites in it.. [cough, 'The Evil Dead', cough]

 ———————————————————————————–

Thus concludes part2 of the new horror challenge. I'll continue with a part3 [and maybe a part4 & part5 depending on how long it takes to get to 30.] in the next coming days [I'm off until 3:00 on Wednesday!] Be sure to 'like' the fan page for Firework Eyes & Haunted Hearts on Facebook; which you can find here, or even follow me on Twitter. NEW 30 question horror challenge!

Looking back on older posts, I came across the Horror Lover Challenge I did early last summer. [part one of this can be found here] I realized that I actually enjoyed doing this 'challenge' because I had to think about movies I'd seen in the past and think of them in another way. For this reason, I decided to take to Google, and search for a NEW horror challenge. So here it is; my newest answers to a new horror challenge - Let's Go! [warning: this MIGHT get NSFW- I haven't read all the questions in full detail, so it may get inappropriate for readers under 18. -Warren]

———————————————————————————–

  # 01 - A horror film that no one would expect you to love, but you do

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120707092652/13ghosts/images/a/a3/2001ghosts.jpg

Thi13en Ghosts holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first horror films I watched with a few [very] good friends of mine. Although it's not a fantastic movie, it still feels important, especially to this list.
———————————————————————————–

# 02 - The horror film that you relate most to

http://origin.arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.media/stayaliveposter.jpg

Stay Alive is the one that takes this spot because I have a notorious habit of becoming obsessed with a singular video game until I beat it. Of course, this doesn't mean I survive 100% of the way through the game. fuck this game!
———————————————————————————–

# 03 - Your favorite slasher

http://images.sodahead.com/polls/0/0/1/2/5/3/4/9/9/nightmare_on_elm_street_nes.gif

A Nightmare On Elm Street. this one's a given, as I've said it a million times [and I do mean the original]. - let's move on to next question please!
———————————————————————————–

# 04 - Your favorite werewolf film

http://antifilmschoolsite.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/an-american-werewolf-in-london-2.jpg

An American Werewolf In London. again, is there really any other choice but this one? this film is perfection.
———————————————————————————–

# 05 - Your favorite monster movie

http://images.fandango.com/MDCsite/images/featured/201108/monster_squad1.jpg

What do you get if you mix a werewolf, a mummy, Dracula, and a fish-man all together? you get a group of kids getting prepared to kick their ass! that group of kids [the kids above] is known as The Monster Squad. [get it? cause that's the name of the movie? ..forget it.]
———————————————————————————–

# 06 - Your favorite vampire movie

 http://blogs.whatsontv.co.uk/movietalk/files/2009/04/let-the-right-one-in_quad_final.jpg

Let The Right One In is one of my favorite horror films ever - and it can somewhat not even be considered a horror. It's a Swedish film but I highly recommend it!

RANT: The live-action version of 'Akira' is moving forward! [again..]

Have you ever watched a movie that you loved so much, that you were afraid of hearing of a remake, or a 're-imagining' of a film so much- that when you heard of it actually coming true; you got upset. that is pretty much what I'm going into with this post. [so mild to heavy rant warning:] As clearly noted by my Letterboxd page, I've seen a fair share of films. Anything from horror [which, let's be honest; is 90% of the movies I watch] to animation. One particular anime that I absolutely adore is 'Akira'. From creepy body mutations, to that very special bike: Akira will always hold a special place in my heart [and my DVD shelf]. However, as Hollywood has a notorious habit of doing lately, Akira- the comic turned into an anime- is soon [as in 'eventually'] going to become: Akira- the comic turned into an anime, turned live-action.. I know, I'm not amused either; but trust me, somehow this news gets worse. How so? read on after the jump.

———————————————————————————–

It seems that a live-action American-ized adaptation of Akira has been a movie project that has been stalled, died, and been resurrected more times than Superman did in the comicbooks, and that's not all: because this remake of the classic film holds such controversial topics like likely using white actors over the original characters being Asian [apparenly Hollywood is even threatening to change Tetsuo's name to Travis?!], sources even claim that Noe-Toyko will become Neo-Manhattan?! This is getting fucking ridiculous! I mean, I'm Canadian, but I find this could even go over as being culturally insensitive- I can only imagine how offended people are going to be when they realize everything isn't what Akira is supposed to be.. Do we really already forget what happened when America made live-action versions of Avatar: The Last Airbender or even Dragonball:Evolution? Those films were scoffed at, tossed aside- all because it felt like the source material wasn't even looked at.. plus with the way Akira is as a whole, there's going to be so much CGI needed that I fear it's just going to look bad. [at this rate, this unnecessary remake may as well be animated]

———————————————————————————–

Oddly enough, Variety is currently reporting that Jaume Collet-Serra [the guy who directed the 2005 remake of House Of Wax: y'know, that one with Paris Hilton. No, I didn't like it either.] is currently set to direct this version of Akira, with a Spring 2014 production start date being planned. [feels so soon, doesn't it?] Serra was originally attached to Akira and was supposed to direct back in 2011, but he then soon left the project after Warner Bros refused to give him the 'go ahead' because of his proposed $90 million budget. So I guess the only thing we really know about this live-action/remake/questionable film  is that it's starting production this Spring; and that hopefully it turns out half decent- I am worried though, because Hollywood already ruined Avatar & Dragonball, which I grew up loving- and now Akira.. I suppose time will tell. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.
