Rant of the day: Movie Remakes.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I've been busy [it IS summer] & I've been out doing...summer things and working. Not to mention when I'm not working or doing 'summer things', I couldn't think of any new topics to talk about here.. But this morning when I logged onto Facebook, I noticed my new rant topic; movie remakes. I'm sure I've touched on this before when talking about A Nightmare On Elm Street. So here we go- RANT ALERT [not actually me- Warren; depicted below]

I ABSOLUTELY despise the idea of remakes.. and I'm sure I'm not alone either. As you all know, I'm a huge horror movie fan, and my favorite movie of all time is the original 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'. Now, I saw [and own] the remake for SOLE the reason that I am a Freddy fan.. I didn't buy it necessarily because I enjoyed it. [it wasn't a terrible movie, I just felt like they made Freddy 'too evil' and they even changed the story a little.] The fact that the original was meant to be campy, and fun to watch, made the remake terrible. However, I've dealt and gotten past the Nightmare On Elm Street remake. It's every other remake that Hollywood is now planning that is grinding my gears [haha...I've always wanted to say that.] It almost seems like remakes are the norm now- and I'm sure there are a lot of fans that aren't overly impressed [can I see a show of hands?] It's almost like to make yourself known in Hollywood, you have to have a remake in your portfolio; at least it seems that way.
———————————————————————————–
Now, as I said above, there is a lot of movies that Hollywood is remaking that don't need to be redone. but here's a bit of a list of some of the new remakes that are going to be released from Hollywood.

Number 1: The Evil Dead.

This movie is up at the top with A Nightmare On Elm Street as one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and Hollywood has already started producing the remake- for those of us who have seen Evil Dead, we know of Bruce Campbell's character 'Ash' . . as much as it pains me to say it; Ash will NOT be in the remake- atleast not as we know him;

Ash from 'The Evil Dead' [above] is actually being replaced by a female lead.. which pisses me off to no end. [Does this mean the female lead's boyfriend becomes a Deadite, not Linda- Ash's girlfriend from the original?] However, Bruce Campbell says that he's read the script, and he's got strong faith in the movie. [Campbell is also helping with the remake, so that much is promising.]

———————————————————————————–

Number 2: Van Helsing

Anyone else recognize Hugh Jackman in this movie? It's Van Helsing; you know, the guy who goes around killing mythical monsters, Dracula, harpies, all that fun stuff. Apparently, Hollywood was planning a sequel originally, but decided it best that they remake/reboot the whole damn thing. [As in, it'll be a complete 're-imagining' so it'll be a different storyline.] Another weird thing that makes me question the reboot of this particular movie is that Tom Cruise is not only producing it; but even starring in the movie. [I'm not the only one hoping he's NOT playing Van Helsing, right?]

[I don't like the idea of Tom Cruise in a trench coat, it makes me feel uncomfortable.. and didn't he already have long hair in 'Rock of Ages' ?]

———————————————————————————–

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjnbm85QJj-4tM-UpwnwaQzZIXhO1_f7oIr6MVVVh7PNoSV1d40vjg7a5852K270HiFPWHXGhpfe5S_7LZIHhCC_GQwwko89F0DTzTJNzlJpTsDBakVDL1Ymw3CXm0D7tklsplaWUrvao0/s1600/Highlander.jpg
Number 3: Highlander

Whenever I think of the movie Highlander, I think back to the episode of Robot Chicken where Lindsey Lohan and Hilary Duff duke it out on top of the Hollywood sign- but this is probably due to the fact that I have a guilty pleasure for Robot Chicken. Anyways, I've learned over the time of watching movies, that generally- [most of the time, not always] '80s movies are in fact some of the best movies, because they're so damn fun to watch ! However, now they are remaking yet another '80s flick, and it's gonna be Highlander. [I'm certainly hoping for Sean Connery to make a cameo or something, because come on! he's Sean Connery!] However, as it's a remake, you can expect a few big name actors in it; the only we're aware of? None other than this guy as the lead guy;

[Seriously?! .. Seriously.]

Don't get me wrong, Ryan Reynolds is quite the looker according to many people, and he's quite an accomplished actor, but for Highlander? Okay, yeah- that's a little fucked up. I thought the main guy from Highlander was supposed to be Scottish? Isn't Reynolds like me? Canadian? haha, but all jokes aside, I'll have to see the movie, before jumping to conclusions. [The script and story are both still being written.] So there's my thoughts, if I missed any remakes, or you just have a thought or two; feel free to leave them as a comment, I enjoy hearing other people's opinion, even if there's anything you'd like to share that isn't related, leave a comment below ! -Warren.

New Movie Review: Trick 'r Treat [2007]

Trick 'r Treat
is one of my all time favorite horror movies. For a movie that was hardly known around the horror community, I bought this movie on a whim. I really didn’t know what it was, who the little bagged creature on the cover was or what to expect when I finally watch it. I watched it with Stephanie as soon as I got home, and I gotta say..easily the best movie to watch on October 31. Everything about the movie makes it a joy to watch, especially on Halloween:
———————————————————————————–
[Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t seen the movie DON’T scroll down.]

———————————————————————————–
Everything from the werewolf sisters, SAM [who is the 'bagged creature' on the front of the DVD], The Jack-O-Lantern story with Rhonda, a murderous school principle & especially, who could forget the victims on the school bus who were killed all because of their selfish parents? and everything in between… It’s one of my all time favorite stories & I could watch it at anytime, and still find something new..
———————————————————————————–
[Did I mention Anna Paquin is in the movie??]
———————————————————————————–
I love the idea of 4 or 5 stories being intertwined into one larger story [if you look carefully enough, each of the other characters show up in other stories.] It also kind of offends me to know this movie was a straight to DVD release. It was so well done, that I feel that it should have had a theatrical release [perhaps on Halloween?] Sadly, it's from 2007- s0 I doubt it will be released in theaters in 2012. [*overwhelming sadness ensues*] I love this movie.. hands down, it is one of the more fantastic horror movies to come out for us horror fans, and for those who love the genre, I fully recommend it. ♥ Below you will find a GIF from the movie, and yes.. it’s none other than SAM, which had to be done.. cause he's so goddamn cute!
———————————————————————————–

Here's a clip from the movie, showing Anna Paquin and her werewolf friends- playing 'hard to get'

[I'd like to apologize, after re-reading this post on the actual blog; Youtube wouldn't let me embed the video..just click on the link to Youtube to see it.. a new version of this video will be updated here soon, so you can actually watch it on the blog.]

NEW Movie Review: Pan's Labyrinth [2006]

One thing I noticed when talking to a new friend whom I met yesterday about horror movies is that I actually am a fairly large fan of foreign films. One such foreign film is Pan's Labyrinth. I actually saw this movie in theaters twice when it first came out.. primarily because I was late the first time around [I had paid to see 'Wild Hogs' but when I saw that this was in theaters, I naturally chose Pan's Labyrinth] I absolutely love the atmosphere within the film itself and the story behind it. Just knowing that [as the movie portrays] fantasy/make believe is a much better place then real life/reality. This film shows that sometimes, it's better to get lost in a fantasy world rather than live in reality.. If I had to choose a favorite character though, it would have to be 'Pan' or 'The Faun'. Just the way that Guillermo Del Toro had envisioned him [Del Toro is the director], and then made him come to life is very essence of a beautiful creature in my eyes. For those that aren't aware- Pan is the god of the Earth and the forests [according to myths and fairy tales] So naturally Guillermo Del Toro made Pan look exactly like he was part of the Earth. [see below for a picture of Pan from the movie]

———————————————————————————–
Now bear in mind, being a foreign film- it is subtitled. It's spoken in Spanish and the amazing part is all the actors that were in the movie, actually spoke Spanish as their first language.. Everyone except for The Faun. Pan was actually played by Doug Jones [who is American], whom you may know from other movies..even if you don't know it.

[This is Doug Jones- in case you weren't aware..]
———————————————————————————–
If you still don't recognize him, don't worry too much- not many people do. It's because Doug is actually known for wearing very obscure costumes when playing a part in a movie.. Here are some other examples of characters who Doug Jones has played in other movies, whether you've realized it or not.
The Pale Man
..definitely an odd character to say the least; He's also from Pan's Labyrinth
———————————————————————————–

The Angel Of Death- Hellboy2
———————————————————————————–
image
Abe Sapien- Hellboy 1 & 2
———————————————————————————–
image
Billy Butcherson- Hocus Pocus
———————————————————————————–
Needless to say, Doug Jones has played in multiple movies without us being aware, all because of the costume. [If you watch the special features of Pan's Labyrinth, he actually says that Pan was the most comfortable suit he's worn yet..] So there you have it, Pan's Labyrinth. It's one of the best [if not the best] foreign horror/fantasy movies out there- the story is superb, the acting is well done, and Doug Jones plays not one, but two characters. [although one doesn't speak] If you're into horror/fantasy type movies, check this one out.. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Guess where I was this past weekend?

This past weekend was a weekend to remember as the family and I [and by 'family', I mean Stephanie , Isabella- my sister, Samm- a friend of mine, my father & my grandfather] went to the very first Comic-Con in Ottawa!
http://i.imgur.com/usHvd.gif
[I feel that this GIF sums up my feelings for how excited I was..]
———————————————————————————–
Now I was very lucky to be able to go, because although I got 2 tickets back in March [they were a birthday gift, one for Stephanie & I], and although I asked work for the date off the very next day [I gave them literally just over 2 months notice ahead of time], I still ended up getting a shift on the day of Comic-Con. I wasn’t impressed. I found it completely unfair- especially since one guy I work with asked if he could have the day off cause his cat was sick the day he was scheduled..and he got it off. Yet I asked 2 months early, and got denied. Luckily another guy I work with was totally cool with the idea of taking my shift for the day, and I’m very thankful. anyways! This post isn’t to bitch and moan.. but rather talk about Comic-Con!
———————————————————————————–
[The line up was HUGE, apparently Saturday- the day we went- was sold out with over 18,000 people!]
———————————————————————————–
For Stephanie, Samm, Isabella & I, we left at 8:45am[ish] [although the actual thing started at 10:00] and drove out to the place it was being held, and even then- there was a crazy line already started. Immediately after seeing all the people slowly show up to join the line, we noticed that we should have showed up in costume [in the picture above you can see The 11th Doctor from Doctor Who- the one wearing the red fez] We saw a lot of different costumes too [I'll show pictures at the end] There was a lot of Avengers costumes, probably due to the fame the movie is getting, but also a lot of costumes I had never seen before!

[Need a costume idea? Why not Zoidberg?]
There was so much to see, from Zoidberg, to all the stands selling comics [hell, we even found a corner- behind Zoidberg in the picture, where you could buy Archie Comics!] Now the real highlight was knowing that there were guests appearing- although you have to pay to see them/get pictures. There was William Shatner [who was charging 75 fucking dollars for a picture with him..so naturally we didn't go to him], Elvira- who although I love her- the line to see her was really lengthy, and sadly, she wasn’t in costume [that part kinda killed me inside]. But the final guest, was the whole reason my father went. Long story short, growing up I was the Spider-Man fan- always was, always will be. Dad on the other hand- he was more of a HULK fan. So naturally [although it came to a whopping 60 some dollars] we had to get pictures with this guy! [below]

[from left to right we have my Dad, Our Special Guest, Myself, and Isabella. Slightly to the right of my head you can see my grandfather, Stephanie, & Samm!]
———————————————————————————–
Still don’t know who it is?! I’ll give you one last hint [even though I'm pretty sure that the photo above was hint enough]
It was LOU FERRIGNO! He’s known for playing the original HULK in the old TV show with Bill Bixby! [RIP Mr. Bixby..] It was probably the craziest thing ever- he was easily a foot or two taller than me, and each of his arms were like quadruple the size of my itty bitty neck! It blew my mind- he was even quite friendly- but I think that’s part of the gig. Ultimately, we stayed at Comic-Con for a LONG time- like rest of the day [making our visit to Comic-Con a total of 9 hours!] I was really glad to be able to say I was there..cause it was extremely worth it. bring on next year’s Comic-Con! [below you will find more pictures of people in costume for your entertainment- CHEERS]
———————————————————————————–
[Left to right: Warren- Me, Isabella, & The 4th Doctor- Doctor Who]
———————————————————————————–
Optimus Prime- Transformers!
———————————————————————————–
[Left to right: Stephanie, Master Chief- Halo series]
———————————————————————————–
Pyramid Head- from Silent Hill- I had to chase him down to get a picture!
———————————————————————————–
PS: I apologize for the sideways pictures..they wouldn’t load if I flipped them.. lame- I know.

Something you MUST watch now: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN- 4 MINUTE SUPER PREVIEW!

For those who know me [and even those who don't], know that Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. Even since I was a child, I'd run home from school and watch the 1990's series of The Amazing Spider-Man- the one that I still desperately want to find on DVD, but no one has made a full collection; just various episodes sprawled across 5 or 6 different DVDs..

http://x.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/9/10/4be84eab42065.jpg
[Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this cartoon!]-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I already own the original 1967 Spider-Man cartoon on DVD, and it is still one of my most prized possessions. [that and my Nightmare On Elm Street DVD collection- I like collections..don't judge me just yet.] I am also a fan the live action Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire. Now before I get any hate- I did have some complaints, I won't say they were perfect. I read the comics, and I found they were way off in some aspects, but alright in others. When I heard they were remaking the Spider-Man films; I was a little uneasy [considering they kinda messed them up before]. I held my tongue and watched the trailer. Eventually, I found myself still concerned for the movies because of the whole Lizard tie-in.. Yet every time there is a TV spot, or a new trailer- I find myself to watch it; hoping it'll change my mind. Now when I went to see Avengers [I have a review for that movie which can be found here] there was a 3rd new trailer...and that is the one which made me realize that this remake- the remake of a movie about my favorite hero- will be a huge success. I have a few reasons for this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Spider-Man actually makes fun of his enemies this time around. [Tobey's Spider-Man did a little- but not as much as he should have..he's Peter Parker for crying out loud!]

2. Spider-Man has webshooters, rather than the webs coming out of his actual wrist. [this is a big deal for me, cause that's how it was in the comics- Spider-Man actually made his webshooters after being bitten.]

3. Gwen Stacey came first! NOT Mary Jane. [although we all know Peter Parker ends up with Ms. Mary Jane Watson in the end; Gwen Stacey- who will be played by the lovely Emma Stone- was Peter's first girlfriend in the comics..way before he even knew of MJ's existence!]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So to make this super short and to the point [I think I've rambled enough], I logged onto both Twitter & Tumblr this morning and found a 4 minute SUPER PREVIEW that I could not just keep to myself.. [I think of the other Spidey fan's, y'know?] it makes me stoked as hell for the new Spidey flick, and I'll say it- Andrew Garfield- who is playing our new Spidey, looks Amazing as Spider-Man! [get it? Amazing? Amazing Spider-Man? ..too soon?] So enough rambling from me and get watching the SUPER PREVIEW- It's bloody fantastic!

Movie Review: AVENGERS [2012]

-Being as it broke all sorts of crazy records, I figured it was time to do an Avengers review!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although I want to assume, I want to let you guys know that as always this is a review and my thoughts on a movie [and being that it is on Avengers, it's gonna be have pictures from the actual film-] so expect spoilers! Now.. to begin, I'd like to point out that I didn't get to see the movie opening night as I originally had planned. I actually had to work- and holy shit was it ever busy.. out of 12 of our theaters playing the movie, 5 of them were playing Avengers [both having 3D, 2D & AVX] and 2 of those theaters were sold out for the rest of the day! [bear in mind that I mean 12 theater screens in one complex] Luckily, although I worked the next day as well, I was finished at 4pm- so naturally, Stephanie, her friend Jessica, and I went to see Avengers then! It was a late show [as stated before, the others were sold out] around 9:45, and there was a line already started.. we eventually got into the theater. .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the end of the movie, I was amazed. I couldn't help but find the movie was fantastic! Josh Whedon [the guy who wrote and directed Avengers] did a fantastic job writing let alone scripting the story. It tied all the superheroes together from their own respective movies which made me happy. [please note that this is going to sound bad, but I haven't seen Captain America yet.] There was a lot humor,

[this actually happens in the film!]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there was a good story that was easy enough to follow, Loki was as beautiful as always,

and there was superb actors in it! [I always like me some Robert Downey Jr as well] But hold on- I wanna go back on that 'superb actors' part. Now, I'm not saying that he was a bad choice- as he actually won me over by the end of the film..But I was feeling off at first about Mr. Mark Ruffalo playing Bruce Banner/Hulk.

Don't get me wrong- he did win me over- just the first thought of him playing Banner really messed with my head. [Spoiler Alert! there is a part in the film where he's pretty much naked after changing into The Hulk for the first time- below!]
Ultimately, I'll conclude this review with planting the idea of telling you guys to go see it! It's really amazing, and I cannot stress enough [as a guy who reads Marvel comics] that it was really well put together! If you go see it however, stay after the credits- there are 2 extra scenes [the first of which actually lines up Thor2] .. I'll post a picture- but consider it a major spoiler! Anyone ever heard of Thanos? [pretty sure it was him- let us compare from movie to comic-]

[here's Thanos at the end of Avengers]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------image
[here's Thanos from the comics]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[*Deep breath*- geek moment-] He's the guy who wants to steal The Infinity Gauntlet [he is seen wearing it in the picture above- the comic version] from The Armories in Asgard. If he succeeds, He can pretty well rule the galaxy- I want to assume he's going to team up with Loki in Thor2 and from there, attempt what he started in Avengers. But that's where I'll leave you- 1. go see Avengers, it's well worth it! 2. Make sure you see the credits! and 3. After going to see the movie [assuming you haven't already..], let me know who you think the army Loki had in the movie were. [I'm just hopeful that it's The Skrull]<- Here I go again, sounding more nerdy than I need to! Until my next post/review/rant, CHEERS.

Movie Review: Kick-Ass [2010]

Please note- before I officially begin this review, I'd like to point out that I will be in fact use pictures and GIFs from the movie in this review [so there are spoilers]: If you still wish to read the review, it is found below.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALSO! As I've stated before, I'm moving all my movie reviews over to this blog from Tumblr. This is one of the first reviews I actually ever did on a movie [or at least the first one I ever wrote- rather then explain out loud] The movie? It's Kick-Ass!
Posters Kick Ass

I actually really enjoy this movie- there's good actors, it's an amazing script [oddly enough, it's based off a comic book], and I can pretty much relate.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our story starts off with a voice over of a teenager [roughly 19 years old] explaining exactly that: ‘who wouldn’t want to be a superhero? We see it all the time in the movies? why not in real life?’ Dave [the teen main character who's voice we heard earlier] has two best friends, and together they always love going to the comic book store to look up on the new releases of Spider-Man & Hellboy [I mention Hellboy cause there is a comic poster showing Hellboy in the background of the comic store. Keep an eye open!] & one day, he mentions his thoughts on real live superheroes to his friends; who reluctantly shrug his idea off. Dave thinks otherwise, especially after they got mugged on the way home from the comic store and gave over their newly bought comics [either that or get killed..right?] so that night he goes on his Macbook to Amazon.ca [‘.ca’ cause the movie is Canadian.] and is looking at…Diving Gear? .After getting his delivery in the mail, Dave looks at his new diving gear and tries it on, and he looks exactly like a superhero!!
[okay, he looks 'pretty much' like a superhero- I take back that 'exactly' part.]-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave then heads to school, costume under his shirt and all- and he feels pretty damn good about himself. So while he’s walking home that day, Dave catches up to the two guys who mugged him and his friends earlier [took their comics, remember?] and proceeds to take his shirt off and become the superhero he always dreamed of being. He begins to talk tough to the two muggers [who by this point are trying to break into a car.] and the one mugger tells Dave that he’s clearly high based on his appearance. Dave denies being high, and talks harshly again to the muggers, who begin to get ready to attack. Dave starts out fighting well, although it’s clear as day that he is swinging too widely, and ultimately; gets stabbed..
It's from there that he's rushed to the hospital and he begged the ambulance driver to throw out his clothes- cause it'd be too embarrassing. This doesn't stop Dave though- in fact, it actually pushes him harder. This is where I'm actually going to end the review- I don't wanna ruin it too much, because it's a really good movie and you almost have to see it for yourself to understand the the whole story. ALSO! there is actually a gory scene! anyways, I strongly recommend it! Especially if you love superheroes, and/or always wanted to be one! [I was like that when I was younger- maybe this is why I enjoy this film so much?]

Did I mention Nicholas Cage is in Kick-Ass? ...with a creepy pedo 'stache?

Movie Review: Hatchet [2006]

Please note- before I officially begin this review, I'd like to point out that I will be in fact use pictures and GIFs from the movie in this review [so there are many spoilers]: If you still wish to read the review, it is found below. I just thought I'd clarify before I begin.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hatchet is one of those movies I like for many reasons. It’s a horror, Victor Crowley is a kick-ass villain ♥, It’s got some famous horror actors like Robert Englund [Freddy Krueger] and Kane Hodder [Jason Voorhees] and the movie over all has a lot of comedy to help move the story along. [What more could you possibly need?] Now, the one thing I like about Hatchet the most is that there is no CGI. So in other words, every kill scene [and there is a lot of them], every blood splatter, everything… is not computer generated. :)
http://i.imgur.com/BHUKu.gif
[See? Even Charlie Day agrees..and no one fucks with Charlie Day.]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The plot of the movie is [as IMDB puts it]:
“When a group of tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare.”

Now, as stated before- There is absolutely no CGI in this movie. which no doubt makes a lot of horror fans happy. [this includes me] Let me explain why; by asking a question. Have you ever watched a horror movie, and found yourself to be very disappointed by the look of the monster/alien/bad guy in general? Have you ever been so disgusted by how terrible the Special Effects of a movie were- primarily because of said monster?

http://horrornews.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/sshark-356x500.jpg
[I'm looking at you- SUPERSHARK.]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's what some like to call: the bad CGI. Don't get me wrong- sometimes CGI can be used in a good way. It can help bring along a scene, or sometimes it's used to make a scene happen that otherwise would be deemed impossible. For the most part however, I actually despise CGI, [unless it's meant to poke fun] & yet movie makers still use their computers to make certain scenes. [although 3/4 times- it doesn't work to their advantage..] This is where Hatchet is completely different. Hatchet actually features NO CGI.. Like none at all. Hatchet is actually a campy fun film for horror fans, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. I also want to point out that although it shares the same title- this particular Hatchet is not the same story you had to read in grade school. [Figured I'd clear that up- as some people have asked me that..]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[See for yourself- This was all make up and props.. NO CGI]-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Now, there is also a Hatchet II that was released last year ago-ish, and unfortunately; I still haven't seen it. When I do however, I will write a review- because for those of us who HAVE seen Hatchet: The story is beautiful, the acting is plain awesome, and you can't go wrong when there is no CGI. [Until then, here's a small GIF from Hatchet II- below]

Finishing first year/How I managed to get into College-

So because I’m so excited [and you should be too!], I felt the need to tell everyone that as of last night [approximately 7:30pm] I finished my final [online] exam! Therefore, I’m done [officially] my first year of COLLEGE!!
http://i.imgur.com/igmqE.gif
[Thanks Kermit & Stephen Colbert, you make me smile!]
—————————————————–
words cannot express how excited I am to be done. [I can finally focus on working more shifts, and saving more money] It’s been a long time coming- I feel relieved to be done, even if I am concerned about marks. All I really have to do now, is go into class tomorrow to be with my group when we hand in our final project [for Communications2]. After that, I’m officially on holidays [apart from work]!
—————————————————–
I guess my excitement is to be expected, but let me explain why in the form of a story . [*This might be considered part of 'Story-Time' based on length*] Around 2 years ago now, [when I first moved to Ottawa] I had just graduated High School and all my friends were running off to College & University. [except for a few- some continued working, others went back to High School for a 5th year..no idea why.] Myself, on the other hand, was one of the few that actually didn’t go straight to College/University. It wasn’t because I didn’t have enough money, and it wasn’t because I didn’t want to- but in fact; [although they were somewhat adequate] my math grade when I graduated was really low. [I'm talking something like 40%]. At first, I felt like it wasn’t too big of a deal- because for a long time, I didn’t really care about the idea of College or University. Yet, for some reason; I felt ashamed of this mark. FLASH FORWARD TO SEPTEMBER:[after graduation, so around 3 months later.] Stephanie had also not gone to post-secondary school, and actually began working right away. [she got an easy transfer to another Rexall here in Ottawa-] I was trying to find a job [I went through 2 or 3 until finally beginning at the Theater- where I am working now.] but I continuously thought about when I graduated- and how I seem to have graduated only by a stroke of luck. It had bothered me for some weeks until abruptly, my grandmother told me about something she heard about through a friend: Academic Upgrading.
—————————————————–
I had never heard of this Academic Upgrading. In fact, I was a little skeptical at first. I had thoughts such as ‘Am I going back to High School?’ & ‘But- I hated high school.’ and other such thoughts. But I agreed to check it out. Oddly enough, the course was free for me [as I was still 18 at the time..weird to know that was 2 years ago*shudders], and it actually took place at Algonquin College [where I go now]. I felt strange- really strange. I didn’t understand why I agreed to this. I felt scared. I took a deep breath and decided to go full force.. Eventually, when I ended up actually in the classroom, I felt a lot better. [it helps that I met one friend- whom I still speak to: SHOUT OUT TO MARINA!] It was an upgrading program for the topic from High School you needed help in the most. So naturally- I chose MATH. I began to truly understand math for the first time in what felt like forever, and every time there was a test- I’d always try my hardest. [which never really happened in High School] I stayed in this upgrading for around 6 to 7 months, and when I finally finished it- I was told if I were to ever sign up for an actual course at Algonquin, my math mark on my report card [from grade 12] would be replaced with the mark I earned in the math upgrading. My final mark [the one that was to take over my shitty High School mark] was a whopping 95%. I was awestruck. Never had I even dreamed of this happening… and the best part was knowing that I had achieved it.—————————————————–
After finishing that Upgrading Course- I chose to go for an official course at the school, and chose to go with Community Studies, which is the one that I finished the first year officially- yesterday. [that does make sense, right?] After tomorrow [as mentioned above], when I hand in my final project into Communications2, I will officially be able to focus on just work.. I’m glad I chose to go for Upgrading first. I think although I try to be friendly to everyone, I would have be terrified to go into a new school, not knowing anyone. But now, I find myself stoked for next year. Because let’s face it- THIS YEAR WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

Obvious Overthinking. Part2.

Some times I am curious why I like dark, twisted things. I understand that I have already touched on this topic in the 'obvious overthinking' note, but who says there can't be a part 2? Allow me to re-cap. As a child, I used to be scared out of my mind of horror movies, I couldn't even watch 'Signs' without ducking for fear of being attacked by some foolish looking alien. The very idea of an alien[s] invading Earth was the scariest idea anyone could have planted in my mind, real or fake. Now, fast forward a couple years. I am now 20, I find my mind thinks negative, dark thoughts AND I watch movies like 'SAW', and 'Insidious' [..It's not only movies, but TV too.] I used to watch 'Pokémon' or some other cartoon, now- as seen by my DVD collection- if it doesn't involve death; [I watch shows like 'Six Feet Under', 'Dexter', & 'Dead Like Me']somehow, I don't find it interesting, but rather find myself yawning and feeling bored. Incidentally, I was waiting in the Doctor's office once [waiting on Stephanie♥] and I was just keeping to myself when I saw a magazine.I read in that exact copy of McLean's Magazine that some people are starting to believe that those who have 'warped' minds [like myself], or find themselves depressed aren't actually 'psychologically messed up' like people like to believe, but in fact; it's because they understand how cruel the world truly is .. On a completely different note, but still relevant; it also concerns me a little how I used to think of 'The perfect dream house' when I was younger. In my mind, [at the fragile age of 8 or 9-] I truly believed that the kind of house I would own when I grew older would be a two story house, in a suburban neighborhood with many people nearby who would visit every Wednesday for supper. I believed that we [my future wife and I] would serve scalloped potatoes and pork tenderloin with carrots, because everyone likes those types of neighbors. Almost like a friendly get together for the family friends. Now that I am 20, and obviously not that individual anymore [except in some aspects], I don't like carrots, I find it weird to think of having neighbors come over every Wednesday for supper [this may indeed still happen, I can't be certain] and my dream house is not suburban, but more like the one in the picture..

I always have liked the architecture of these kinds of castles.
