What's with all these remakes, Hollywood?!

As most of you know, I'm not a huge fan of remakes. I find that it's Hollywood's way of saying they aren't as clever as they used to be and therefore they feel the need to dig something up from the past and re-do it, just in a shittier way. The one I was most pissed off about was when they remade "A Nightmare On Elm Street" & "Friday The 13th" . I don't get how you can remake those two without pissing someone off..As the title of this post implies, there's way too many remakes that have been/are being made; and there is still more to come due to laziness- In this post, I intend on telling you three [obviously, I can't go through every remake coming up; that would take too long] of the newest remakes, that Hollywood has plans on throwing our way..
———————————————————————————–

NUMBER 1; Gremlins.

———————————————————————————–

Wait.. Gremlins is getting remade? It seems so; according to Vulture; which is an online pop culture blog, it's not for sure- but it's certainly possible..
"Our sources tell us that, in keeping with Hollywood’s mandated pop culture recycling program, Warner Bros. Pictures is negotiating with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot their 1984 horror comedy, "Gremlins". We’re also told negotiations of this sort have happened several times over the years, but making Spielberg’s deal always proved too daunting… our sources tell us that it might just actually come off this time."
So if Spielberg says yes, which is certainly a possibility- I guess that means to expect a new Gremlins movie sometime soon.. I just hope they don't feed the idea to Spielberg after midnight, *witty joke 101*
———————————————————————————–

NUMBER 2; The Never-Ending Story.

  ———————————————————————————–
Sometimes I feel like these remakes are trying to kill me, or maybe it's just Hollywood; because this is my childhood that they're messing with! Set to be released in 2014, we still have a while to watch the original and convince ourselves that it's the only version allowed to be in existence.. seriously, don't fuck with Falkor. He's a freakin' luck dragon. However, apparently, just like Gremlins, the new developers are having technical difficulties getting the rights to the original characters and story. and with Leonardo DiCaprio onboard with this remake..
———————————————————————————–

NUMBER 3; American Psycho.

———————————————————————————–
This one has to be on the list because I'm a little indifferent about it.I really enjoy the version with Christian Bale as noted above.. However, I also feel that the movie doesn't give it enough justice [from the small amount I've read from the book- it's a million times more violent, guess I better actually read the whole book?] But for what it was; it was well done. Now, there's a remake on the way; and not very much is known about what to expect and who is going to be in it. All that is really known is it's going to be updated to modern day New York City, and leave the Wall Street backdrop behind.. Even though this is the main focus of the story-line. ugh.
 ———————————————————————————–
So there it is.. three remakes that I feel shouldn't be remade; or atleast, not anytime soon. Especially The Never-Ending Story, that shit was my childhood.. and it's timeless. [at least, I think so] What about you guys, the readers? Do you feel like these movies should be remade? Why or why not?

As always, if you want to 'like' the fan page for this blog on Facebook; you can do so here , if you want to follow me on Twitter, you can do so here, if you have Tumblr, follow me here. and this one is new; I actually just signed up for Myspace [talk about hipster, am I right?] which you can find me here . CHEERS!

So apparently the world is ending tomorrow.. but I'm not here to worry about that.

well the time has finally come upon us.. "The End Of The World" is tomorrow. [or at least it is for me, being in Canada- I guess it kind of depends on where you live..] However, not everyone thinks that the world is coming to an immediate halt just yet; me included. I don't know if I am willing to accept the idea of the world ending after we had been told it was already suppose to about 5 to 10 times already.. and yet NOTHING. Besides, the world can't end tomorrow- I get paid tomorrow! [hey, I thought it was funny..] Seriously though, I have to work for all week Christmas as it is, and even New Years ! So I'd like to be safe knowing I'm going to have atleast today and tomorrow off.. Every where you look there is talks of the end of the world- and even if you search the date "12-21-2012", one of Google's "did you mean"s is "End Of The World". Everywhere I turn, there is something else about the world ending, and I'm sure I'm not the only one getting tired of it. The idea that everything is going to end again.. is getting kind of bland.

———————————————————————————–
Let's change the topic, because the idea of the world ending is going to get kind of fucking annoying. [cue the Facebook posts] As mentioned above, I'm working most of the remainder of December. [all Christmas week is gonna be dull at a theater, but who really knows?] & I'd love to take the time to blog a whole bunch like I said I wanted to [thankfully school is coming? ..never thought I'd say those words together] but for now, I only have today and tomorrow off then it's off to crazy work times. For this post however, it's going to be in the new format that was used in the post beneath this one..[and they all will be from now on.. at least most]

POINT #1- Rob Zombie's Lords Of Salem finally has a release date: with the trailer already out [it can be found here] , the movie will be premiering in theaters April 26th,I can safely say I'm stoked for this to be released. As a huge fan of The Devil's Rejects & House Of 1000 Corpses, I'm glad to know we're finally getting a new Rob Zombie flick- especially since he's demanding an R rating on it.

pacific-rim-trailer-screengrab.jpg
POINT #2- Pacific Rim looks fucking bad ass: I'm gonna go ahead and assume all of you hardcore movie fans have already seen the trailer for this [if not you can watch it here] and it's looking pretty extreme. Now although many people are saying that it's looking like something out of a robot anime show; I think it seems like a decent idea for a movie like this to come out- at leastit isn't another possession movie [cough* Paranormal Activity 5]

POINT #3- Wolverine will be returning in X-Men: Days Of Future's Past: Straight from Bryan Singer's Twitter account [Singer is going to be the director of the movie], he welcomes Hugh Jackman himself as Wolverine, just the way we like it, I just hope he's not just a cameo like he was in X-Men:First Class, although I will admit, that was the best surprise cameo ever..

———————————————————————————–
So there you go, a few more points in the world of geek/horror, and some general updates on the author; me. What do you guys think? is the world truly going to end tomorrow? Am I gonna survive at work through Christmas- or is it going to be really slow because no one wants to see a movie? until my next post. Cheers.

Rant of the day: Movie Remakes.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I've been busy [it IS summer] & I've been out doing...summer things and working. Not to mention when I'm not working or doing 'summer things', I couldn't think of any new topics to talk about here.. But this morning when I logged onto Facebook, I noticed my new rant topic; movie remakes. I'm sure I've touched on this before when talking about A Nightmare On Elm Street. So here we go- RANT ALERT [not actually me- Warren; depicted below]

I ABSOLUTELY despise the idea of remakes.. and I'm sure I'm not alone either. As you all know, I'm a huge horror movie fan, and my favorite movie of all time is the original 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'. Now, I saw [and own] the remake for SOLE the reason that I am a Freddy fan.. I didn't buy it necessarily because I enjoyed it. [it wasn't a terrible movie, I just felt like they made Freddy 'too evil' and they even changed the story a little.] The fact that the original was meant to be campy, and fun to watch, made the remake terrible. However, I've dealt and gotten past the Nightmare On Elm Street remake. It's every other remake that Hollywood is now planning that is grinding my gears [haha...I've always wanted to say that.] It almost seems like remakes are the norm now- and I'm sure there are a lot of fans that aren't overly impressed [can I see a show of hands?] It's almost like to make yourself known in Hollywood, you have to have a remake in your portfolio; at least it seems that way.
———————————————————————————–
Now, as I said above, there is a lot of movies that Hollywood is remaking that don't need to be redone. but here's a bit of a list of some of the new remakes that are going to be released from Hollywood.

Number 1: The Evil Dead.

This movie is up at the top with A Nightmare On Elm Street as one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and Hollywood has already started producing the remake- for those of us who have seen Evil Dead, we know of Bruce Campbell's character 'Ash' . . as much as it pains me to say it; Ash will NOT be in the remake- atleast not as we know him;

Ash from 'The Evil Dead' [above] is actually being replaced by a female lead.. which pisses me off to no end. [Does this mean the female lead's boyfriend becomes a Deadite, not Linda- Ash's girlfriend from the original?] However, Bruce Campbell says that he's read the script, and he's got strong faith in the movie. [Campbell is also helping with the remake, so that much is promising.]

———————————————————————————–

Number 2: Van Helsing

Anyone else recognize Hugh Jackman in this movie? It's Van Helsing; you know, the guy who goes around killing mythical monsters, Dracula, harpies, all that fun stuff. Apparently, Hollywood was planning a sequel originally, but decided it best that they remake/reboot the whole damn thing. [As in, it'll be a complete 're-imagining' so it'll be a different storyline.] Another weird thing that makes me question the reboot of this particular movie is that Tom Cruise is not only producing it; but even starring in the movie. [I'm not the only one hoping he's NOT playing Van Helsing, right?]

[I don't like the idea of Tom Cruise in a trench coat, it makes me feel uncomfortable.. and didn't he already have long hair in 'Rock of Ages' ?]

Number 3: Highlander

Whenever I think of the movie Highlander, I think back to the episode of Robot Chicken where Lindsey Lohan and Hilary Duff duke it out on top of the Hollywood sign- but this is probably due to the fact that I have a guilty pleasure for Robot Chicken. Anyways, I've learned over the time of watching movies, that generally- [most of the time, not always] '80s movies are in fact some of the best movies, because they're so damn fun to watch ! However, now they are remaking yet another '80s flick, and it's gonna be Highlander. [I'm certainly hoping for Sean Connery to make a cameo or something, because come on! he's Sean Connery!] However, as it's a remake, you can expect a few big name actors in it; the only we're aware of? None other than this guy as the lead guy;

[Seriously?! .. Seriously.]

Don't get me wrong, Ryan Reynolds is quite the looker according to many people, and he's quite an accomplished actor, but for Highlander? Okay, yeah- that's a little fucked up. I thought the main guy from Highlander was supposed to be Scottish? Isn't Reynolds like me? Canadian? haha, but all jokes aside, I'll have to see the movie, before jumping to conclusions. [The script and story are both still being written.] So there's my thoughts, if I missed any remakes, or you just have a thought or two; feel free to leave them as a comment, I enjoy hearing other people's opinion, even if there's anything you'd like to share that isn't related, leave a comment below ! -Warren.
