Dawn Of The First Day; 72 Hours Remain.

http://www.pushselectmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/majora__s_mask___skull_kid_and_moon_by_tx_slade_xt-d5bu2d1.jpg

It's no secret that Majora's Mask is arguably my favorite video game of all time. But have you ever played a game, and tried looking  past the game itself and actually looked into the smaller details of the game- trying to figure out why things are the way they are? This is what a guy on ZeldaInformer named HylianDan [more commonly known as Dan Merill] did, and fuck, did he ever get into the details. The best part? He did it for a game called "The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask". Be forewarned that it is a lengthy article/argument, but if you haven't read it, I've posted a link here and it's well worth the read, especially if you're a Zelda fan!

———————————————————————————–

HylianDan makes a lot of solid points about the game, everything from the infamous Stone Temple, to the fact that Majora could actually be female! I've read this article about 100 times over, and I always notice something I missed previously; which makes me want to replay the game all the more. I remember when I was younger, Majora's Mask [as a video game] actually gave me nightmares, [which may explain my new love for it when I was a teenager leading into adulthood] all the flashing images of someone trying to destroy Termina, only having three days to save the entire world! Even for Link who bears The Triforce Of Courage, you have to admit, that's some heavy baggage on a guy!

[y'know; three days to save Termina or this happens..fuck.]

———————————————————————————–

and this large theory that Hylian Dan poses is just one of many. For example, take GameTheory's video on Youtube. [I'm talking about THIS particular video] According to the video, Link could potentially already be dead during the game, and be stuck in some kind of purgatory. AND THIS IS A CHILDREN'S VIDEO GAME. According to MatPat [who made the Youtube video I linked] Majora's Mask follows The Kübler-Ross Model, which states the 5 stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression & Acceptance.  I won't steal all MatPat's thunder, so I'd suggest to just watch the video, he's probably better at explaining it than me anyway.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes, a game is more than a game; sometimes, it actually reaches your subconscious- to the point of sending chills down your spine.. I know that Majora's Mask did that to me the first time I finished the game. I could not believe that so much sadness, so much grief, could make a game so great. Just knowing that the Acceptance stage at the end of the game is just so damn powerful, makes me thankful for even just being able to play the game to it's fullest. So I just want to say thanks Nintendo, for making one hell of an awesome game- It's easily number one on my top 5 games ever.. now please excuse me as I go and fire up the ol' Nintendo64 and break out the Majora's Mask cartridge- I have some replaying [y'know..again] to do!

Welcome back! [first post since losing internet - RIP]

As you may or may not have known, Stephanie and I recently [back on June 1st] moved into our first apartment together! [fucking finally, Am I Right?] However, one thing that I wasn't used to right away was the [lack of] internet. As it turned out, we wouldn't be getting internet for nearly three weeks; and had to find ways to occupy our time accordingly. Thankfully, being in the 21st century- we had video games at our disposal and a load of movies to watch if time allowed. [and I mean a load- see our new movie shelf below]

[the worst part is that's 'part one' of a bookshelf for movies!]
 ———————————————————————————–
The other thing that's been occupying my time; is drawing on my Bamboo Tablet. For those unaware of what this is- it's basically a tablet [as it's implied] which you plug into your computer and it comes with a stylus to draw.. Being the sketch-artist I am, I figured without internet: why the fuck not. One drawing in particular that I did stuck out, and I'm going to show you- simply because I can [no self promotion or anything here!]

I think he looks kinda pretty, don't you?

If you follow the fan page on Facebook, [found here] you probably would have noticed that I mentioned that there is a load of new posts coming to Firework Eyes & Haunted Hearts; and this is true. Considering I am now in an apartment, I find that some posts may actually be posted late at night.. This is possible because when Steph goes to bed, I can officially stay up [in the living room, sitting on the couch: which is where I am now as I type this] and type to my life's content [assuming I don't need to get up super early the next morning]. As opposed to before when we were living at my grandparents; if I wanted to type when she goes to sleep, the light of the laptop would more than likely keep her awake.  I guess that's basically an update on how the move went, and what is now fully expected here on Firework Eyes & Haunted Hearts; Expect a lot.. Even to the point where there may be more than one post a day!

This one's dedicated to all you geeks out there [myself included!]

After noting 2 new horror flicks coming up that I'm excited for in my last post, I figured that since this blog is about both horror and geekery; I figured that this time, I'll mention some geekery that I'm excited for that I feel that only a geek would truly understand..

NUMBER 1; Portal & Half-Life Movies Coming Soon?

http://fontmeme.com/images/Portal-Cover.jpg

If I showed you this picture, chances are you'd know I'm talking about the video game 'Portal'. [and not just because you read it at the bottom of the picture] Well, apparently Portal is a big enough deal that J.J. Abrams [director of Star Trek, and the new Star Wars movie] is actually developing this to make it into a big screen movie. & it seems it's not only Portal either, he's also looking to make a Half-Life movie as well;

[picture taken from here] Surely, I'm not the only one who sees the resemblance?
———————————————————————————–

Thankfully, J.J. Abrams plans on working closely with Valve to make sure he gets the story right, and explains how video games actually sometimes explain stories a little bit better than a movie. For example, when it comes to Portal, Abrams points out that Portal's slow reveal of its characters and plot was an almost perfect way to build a mysterious atmosphere, he goes on to say "You start 'Portal' with no idea why you're there. The whole game is about figuring out the mystery and what's going on. The more you play the game, the more you learn & the more you felt."  I'm not entirely sure I know how I feel about these games becoming movies, but one thing is for sure; if Abrams is sticking close to Valve to get their opinion as he goes, then I'm game.. no pun intended.

NUMBER 2; Planet Hulk Live Action Film
http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/planet-hulk.jpg

As a avid comic reader, I can't help but include this news update. I originally heard about [okay, technically "read about"] this on a posting by GeekTyrant but I figured that it's such an awesome thought, I should share it. The idea is as follows; In the comics, Hulk is deemed too dangerous for mankind [he kind of is though, just saying] and so a few of Marvel's best heroes send him to space to live on one of the most peaceful planets out in the galaxy- except it completely takes a turn for the worst and he ends up on a planet called 'Skaar'.. a planet which people fight using swords and shields and the like. It's basically Hulk meets Spartacus. [as seen in the picture-] If this happens; I can hereby say that my geek side can officially die happy, so long as they use Mark Ruffalo [for those that aren't aware, I was actually really impressed by Ruffalo's version of Hulk- even if I was worried at first] as our favorite scientist and stop changing the actor who plays Bruce Banner on a daily basis..

Also, Marvel plans on making Ant-Man & Doctor Strange movies as well, which [once again] makes me extremely happy; [I for one, have always enjoyed Doc Strange.] However, there is no news on who's going to be playing these characters.. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
———————————————————————————–
So which of these seem the most appealing to you? Is it the game based movies? Planet Hulk? The idea that there is [finally] going to be both an Ant-Man/Doctor Strange movie coming soon?
